The structure of EBT electric furnace is to change the steel tapping spout of the traditional electric furnace into a steel tapping box, with the steel tapping hole vertically downwards at the bottom of the steel tapping box. The lower part of the tapping hole is equipped with an opening and closing mechanism, which is used to open and close the tapping hole. The center of the top of the steel tapping box is equipped with an operation hole for the operation of filling material and maintenance at the tapping hole.

- The slag-free tapping has been achieved, and the task of the final stage (namely the reduction period) of smelting has been transferred to the LF furnace to improve production efficiency.
- The tapping tilting angle is reduced, therefore, the furnace tilting mechanism is simplified and the impedance of the large current system is reduced.
- Slag and partial molten steel retention operation. Slag-free tapping improves steel quality and is beneficial for refining operations.
- Tapping from the furnace bottom, thus the tapping temperature is reduced and electricity consumption is saved, secondary oxidation is reduced and the lifespan of refractory material is improved.
- Due to its many advantages, EBT furnaces have rapidly gained popularity worldwide. Nowadays, the manufacturing of electric furnaces, especially those that cooperate with out-of-furnace refining, must require slag-free tapping, and EBT is the preferred choice.

During tapping, after tilting the furnace towards the tapping side by about 5 °, the tapping mechanism is opened, and the filling material at the tapping hole automatically falls under the static pressure of the molten steel. The molten steel flows into the ladle, achieving automatic pouring and tapping. When the tapped molten steel reaches the required amount, it quickly tilts back to prevent slag from falling into the ladle. After the furnace body is tilted upright (with partial molten steel remaining and all slag remaining in the furnace), the tapping hole should be inspected and maintained. Then the tapping hole is closed and filled with filling materials (stuffing sand), scrap steel should be loaded, and then restart arc melting.
