The traditional spout tapping electric arc furnace has a round or rectangular hole as the tapping hole, facing the furnace door and located above the slag level in the molten pool. During the smelting process, magnesium sand or crushed limestone blocks are used to plug up the tapping spout, and steel drill rods are used to open it when tapping. The steel tapping spout is welded into a trapezoidal shape using steel plates, and is lined with high alumina bricks or clay bricks soaked in asphalt. It is convenient, durable and effective to use prefabricated whole block bricks that are lined inside of tapping spout, which are rammed and formed with high aluminum, aluminum magnesium, and high-temperature cement. To avoid overflow of molten steel during the smelting process, the tapping spout is tilted upwards at an angle of 8° to 15° with the horizontal plane. If possible, the tapping spout should be as short as possible to reduce secondary oxidation and gas absorption of the molten steel during the tapping process.
